Torpids 2024 (Tug of Warpids)

Dear Balliol College Boat Club,

It is with great excitement and a hint of oar-ful disappointment that I present to you the riveting tale of BCBC’s recent rowing escapade at Warpids. While Torpids may be on hiatus, PCBC invited us to indulge in a different kind of rowing revelry – the Tug of War Extravaganza! Our teams, BCBC Elders and BCBC Youths, embarked on a journey that could only be described as a stroke of both triumph and tribulation.

In the initial rounds, both BCBC squads tugged their way to glory, proving that our training sessions weren’t just a lot of row-nonsense. The Elders and Youths exhibited unparalleled synergy, leaving their opponents in their wake.

However, the plot thickened as fate paired our two formidable teams against each other. In an epic clash of oar-dinary proportions, the Elders managed to paddle their way to victory, proving that age is just a number, especially when it comes to rowing finesse.

Alas, in the final showdown, the Elders found themselves up against the mighty Magdalen Boat Club. Despite putting up a valiant effort, victory eluded our Elders, leaving us with a sense of de-paddle-tion. Kudos to Magdalen Boat Club for their stellar performance and for rowing away with the championship.

As we reflect on these row-some experiences, let’s not forget the essence of the sport – the camaraderie, the teamwork, and the sheer joy of being a part of the row-lling waves of competition.

Row-mantically yours,

BCBC Rowing Enthusiast
