Balliol Blues 2019

Balliol is very excited to be represented in the Oxford Blue Boats set to race Cambridge over the next few weeks!

Ex-BCWBC captain Grace Joel is a 3rd year PPEist from Australia. This is her second year in the Lightweight women’s crew after she learned to row at Balliol her first year.  Having just missed out on the win last year when the race was moved to Dorney, Grace is looking for revenge on the Light Blues this year at Henley. When she’s not putting down the miles on the water Grace debates at the Oxford Union. Look out for her in the 4 seat on March 30th in Henley!

Leah Mitchell is a 2nd year undergrad in Biomed, and this is her first time trialling for OUWLRC. Leah is a master of time management as current co-captain of BCWBC and JCR President in 2018 – we don’t know how she manages it all! She learned to row at Balliol and we look forward to having her back in the boat for Summer VIIIs. Look out for her in the 2 seat on March 30th in Henley!

Ellie Shearer was at Balliol for her undergrad in History and Politics, and is now studying for an MPhil in Political Theory at Nuffield College. Her third year in the squad, Ellie is leading the openweight women this year as President of OUWBC and cox of the Blue Boat. Look out for her smashing the line for the Dark Blues on 7 April!

Huge congrats to these strong women for making the Blue Boats this year – we are very proud to have you as athletes and leaders in our college community. Come out and support them in Henley on March 30th and in London on 7 April (Balliol will be at the Old City Arms in Hammersmith).
